5th SEERC Conference Sarajevo

Announcing the 5th SEERC Conference

The 5th SEERC Conference took place in Sarajevo on June 4–5, 2025, hosted by Bosnia and Herzegovina. This conference, the fifth in the tradition of SEERC regional gatherings, was held at Hotel Hills Sarajevo and brought together over 400 participants from 23 countries, including experts, researchers, industry professionals, and representatives of international organizations in the field of electric power systems.

The event was officially opened by Mr. Edhem Bičakčić, President of SEERC, followed by keynote speeches from Rannveig S. J. Løken, Chair of the CIGRE Technical Council, and Prof. Klaus Fröhlich, Honorary President of the 5th SEERC Conference. Keynote speakers included Prof. Mladen Kezunović from Texas A&M University, Mr. Angelo Ferrante, Secretary General of Med-TSO, and Dr. Ajla Merzić, Vice President of NC CIGRE Bosnia and Herzegovina. The SEERC Award Ceremony and handover of the SEERC Presidency to NC CIGRE Croatia were held during the closing session.

According to the program, 137 accepted papers were presented across four main conference topics and one special session, covering:

  1. Increasing energy efficiency of existing facilities and increasing renewable energy capacities.
  2. New technologies and methodologies for accelerated decarbonization and digitalization of electric power systems.
  3. Development of electricity market balancing and dynamic regulation.
  4. Resilience issues on the electric power systems.

Special session: Functionality of power systems and equipment.

Four distinguished panel discussions enriched the event:

  • WIE (Women in Energy) focusing on bridging academia and industry through women’s leadership,
  • NGN (Next Generation Network), spotlighting career development for young professionals,
  • GIZ PANEL: Distribution grids in Western Balkans and EU – current challenges and future steps
  • HISTORY PANEL

In addition to the technical sessions, the conference featured commercial presentations by leading companies, an exhibition, and a gala dinner that offered a valuable networking opportunity. Deserving individuals who significantly contributed to the profession and to the establishment of SEERC were awarded for the first time at this event.

This Sarajevo edition marked an important milestone in the SEERC legacy, strengthening cooperation in South-East Europe and showcasing innovations for a sustainable energy future.
